Formed in San Francisco in 1993, the rock band Third Eye Blind were first signed by Elektra Records in 1996. The current members of the band are lead vocalist Stephan Jenkins (the only original member), drummer Brad Hargreaves, lead guitarist Kryz Reid, keyboardist Alex Kopp and bassist Alex LeCavalier. Jenkins originally met former member Kevin Cadogan and they quickly started writing songs together. Their debut album Third Eye Blind was eventually released in 1997 and is still their most successful album to date, reaching number 25 in the Billboard 200 and selling six million copies just in the United States. The album also featured their well known single Semi-Charmed Life, which got to number four in the Billboard Hot 100 and won them a Billboard Music Award. Further singles Jumper and How's It Going to Be also charted in the top ten. Their second album, Blue, swiftly followed in 1999 and sold over a million copies in the US. However, a crisis soon hit the band when Cadogan was fired and sued for wrongful dismissal. The case took two years to settle out of court. A third album, Out of the Vein, was released in 2003, but wasn't as well received and sold a disappointing 500,000 copies. After Elektra Records was taken over by Atlantic Records, the band found themselves without a record label. It took a further six years before a fourth album, Ursa Major, was released in 2009. By this time, the band had started their own record label, called Mega Collider Records. Whilst the album reached an impressive number three on the Billboard 200, it failed to emulate the success of their debut album. Third Eye Blind continue to perform and record music to this day, with their latest album, Dopamine, being released in June 2016.
